Jermey Delarosa was as fine an example of America's youth as I have ever known. He and his brothers were among the first to go out of their way to befriend me and make me feel a part of the team.
A team they led to greatness
In 2003, (the year I came back to Shattuck) they began a win streak that remains intact and now stands at 70 straight. Along the way, they garnered 5 straight Oklahoma State Championships! I feel priviledged to have shared these moments with Jermey, and I would like to thank Coach Troy Bullard and Superintendent Randy Holley for allowing me that opportunity.
Thank you Jermey for going out of your way to make our relationship personal. Thank you for inviting me into your home for dinners & joyous occasions, like Megan's Sweet 15, and Prom Night! Thank you and your pranking partners for pelting me with wet paper towels as I tried to dress in the bathroom for the Chorus contest, (haha). Thank you for the ever-present radient smile and greeting, (he always called me Big Man). Thank you for always firing up the crowd and your teamates, and coming thru with the big play.
This is the Jermey I will never forget.
My heart goes out to Sylvia, Freddy, Phillip and Megan because I know about that kind of grief. I lost my sister when I was 5 to an equally trajic accident. I watched as my mother somehow went on. She still had a little one to raise. I understand what it means when parents say "Your not supposed to out-live your kids." Jermey was SO wonderful that in the short time that my wife and I were around him we feel like we lost 'one of ours'. I'm sure many who knew him feel the same. It's been 1 month today since he past, and it took all of that for me to create this gallery. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it, although I have cried every single day.
These pieces are mostly in cronological order. I have tried (when possible) to identify (in the side captions) Jermey's teamates. I apologize for any errors and please contact me so that I can correct them.
I love talking about Jermey.
All the songs you hear are from Jermey's Memorial Service held at the SHS auditorium on March,15, 2008.
